If you see a pending charge on your bank account, don’t worry. This is called pre-authorization, and it's a common practice when making online bookings.
Why does this happen?
Our payment provider needs to validate that your Credit Card details are correct and that there are enough funds to pay for the booking. They do this by placing the applicable amount on hold temporarily. You will only be charged when you complete your booking.
What to expect next?
- Did you complete your booking?
Great, then this pre-authorization will automatically turn into an actual charge, which will be sent to the property you’ve booked. - Did your reservation attempt fail?
If your Credit Card couldn’t be verified, or some other technical problem stops your booking from being completed, the pre-authorization will be automatically released by your bank within 7 business days.
Sometimes, you won't see a refund, you will just see the original authorization drop off your statement entirely after a few days as if it hasn't happened.
If it takes any longer than this, we recommend checking with your bank as release time frames vary from bank to bank.
- Do you see multiple pre-authorizations?
The hold may duplicate if there are numerous efforts to process the payment or complete the reservation. The same process as above will apply, and you will only be charged for completed reservations, otherwise, the hold will drop.
